Edge-of-dock (EOD) levelers are an economical alternative to in-pit style dock levelers and are used to service trucks and trailers of consistent size. This makes them great for trucking terminals, warehouse operations, and smaller commercial warehouse spaces.

Installation Methods

Edge-of-docks have 3 components: 2 bumper blocks and the middle lifting plate. Each component is welded and anchored to steel on your loading dock for installation.

There are 2 methods for installing an edge-of-dock leveler: angled steel plate anchored onto the concrete or an embedded steel channel. The former is the most economical for already-built loading docks, however the latter provides the best installation. This is due to the embedded steel channel holding into the concrete for docks that have heavy fork truck traffic or heavier loads. Both will provided the necessary welding surface required to install your edge-of-dock leveler.

Operation

EOD levelers are available in manual and powered operation. Manual operation for a DLM is as easy as pulling a bar to activate the leveler. For a powered EOD, the push of a button activates a lifting cylinder to lift the plate onto the bed of a trailer. Poweramp DLM's HNL model is a powered EOD that can also operate manually (ideal if there is a power loss).

Sizes and Structure

Common sizes for EOD levelers are 66", 72", 78" and 84" wide. This is the width of the ramp. The overall installed width, including bumper blocks, is 104", 110", 116", and 122" wide. Some EOD levelers are available with narrow bumper blocks (2-hole bumpers), making the overall width smaller.

EOD levelers are available in capacities from 20,000#, 25,000#, 30,000#, and 35,000# CIR (Comparative Industry Rating).
